چکیده

Factor XIII (F XIII) is an essential parameter for final clot stability. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of the addition of factor (F)XIII on clot stability as assessed by Rotation Thromboelastometry (ROTEM®). In 90 intensive care patients ROTEM® measurements were performed after in vitro addition of F XIII 0.32 IU, 0.63 IU, 1.25 IU and compared to diluent controls (DC; aqua injectabile) resulting in approximate F XIII concentrations of 150, 300 and 600%. Baseline measurements without any additions were also performed. The following ROTEM® parameters were measured in FIBTEM and EXTEM tests: clotting time (CT), clot formation time (CFT), maximum clot firmness (MCF), maximum lysis (ML), maximum clot elasticity (MCE) and α-angle (αA). Additionally, laboratory values for FXIII, fibrinogen (FBG), platelets and haematocrit were contemporaneously determined. In the perioperative patient population mean FBG concentration was elev-

Factor XIII Deficiency and Thrombocytopenia Are Frequent Modulators of Postoperative Clot Firmness in a Surgical Intensive Care Unit.

OBJECTIVE Fibrinogen and factor XIII (FXIII) have been shown to critically influence clot firmness in the intraoperative setting and thus likely influence intraoperative bleeding. We were interested to identify potential modulators of postoperative clot firmness in a tertiary care hospital surgical intensive care unit setting, independent of their clinical course during surgery. METHODS 272 d...

Current understanding in diagnosis and management of factor XIII deficiency

Factor XIII or "fibrin-stabilizing factor," is a transglutaminase circulates in the blood circulation as a hetero tetramer with two catalytic A subunits and two carrier B subunits. This important coagulation factor has a crucial role in clotting cascade and produces strong covalent bonds between soluble formed fibrin monomers during coagulation. This stable cross linked fibrin strands are resis...

Dose-response of fibrinogen and factor XIII concentrate for correcting albumin-induced coagulopathy

Objectives: Natural colloid albumin induces a lesser degree of dilutional coagulopathy than synthetic colloids. Fibrinogen concentrate has emerged as a promising strategy to treat coagulopathy, and factor XIII (FXIII) works synergistically with fibrinogen to correct coagulopathy following haemodilution with crystalloids. Objectives were to examine the ability of fibrinogen and FXIII concentrate...

Excessive perioperative bleeding: are fibrin monomers and factor XIII the missing link?

PREDICTING perioperative blood loss is traditionally fraught with great difficulties. Medical history is certainly crucial in the risk assessment of perioperative blood loss because it provides information on bleeding history, the use of antiplatelet drugs, and oral anticoagulation. However, so far there is no laboratory parameter that could reliably predict perioperative blood loss. According ...
